Additions and Alterations to Existing Hoogland Hospital

Graceland Architects • Feb 02, 2021

Bethlehem, Free State

Hoogland Private Hospital identified the need for expansions to their Paediatric, Obstetric and Neo-natal Units. To achieve this growth, a new Medical Unit had to be constructed.

Several challenges presented themselves at the beginning of construction: notably the saturated ground conditions. Thorough planning and teamwork alleviated the problem quickly.

The advent of the pandemic reinforced the need for flexible design and construction ingenuity.

COVID-19 re-emphasised the importance of healthcare excellence through versatile operating models.  It also highlighted that collaboration between the professional team, contractor and the hospital is critical to project success.

This teamwork enabled construction to proceed as the hospital concentrated on providing critical medical care to those infected with the Novel Corona Virus.

The Medical Unit was completed in December, 2020 and with that the interior upgrades and alterations have begun.

The current work is slated for completion at the end of June, 2021.
