Universal Healthcare, PPPs and the NHI

Graceland Architects understands the role it has to play in the provision of universal healthcare for all South Africans. Our understanding of the private and public healthcare sector has now been augmented with new knowledge of Healthcare Public Private Partnerships. An article published in the Mail and Guardian in July and a subsequent presentation at the Africa Healthcare Development Summit highlights our commitment to finding sustainable healthcare solutions for a uniquely South African context.

Africa Healthcare Summit:

Trevor Lovell presented at the annual Africa Healthcare and Development Conference In Johannesburg in September.
The presentation centered around the role of the architect in Public Private Partnerships and how we can assist in mitigating the risk associated with Healthcare PPPs. 
Trevor was involved in two panel discussions 

Mediclinic Potchefstroom Gala Dinner:

The recent completion of the Mediclinic Potchefstroom Upgrades was as good a reason as any to have a celebration. Graceland Architects’ Kim Maree and Karina van Garderen attended the event where the North West Province Health MEC and Mediclinic CEO, Koert Pretorius, were guest speakers.

Mediclinic Brits Site Handover:

Ignatius Foord and Kirsten Smith attended the site handover and sod-turning ceremony for the new upgrade and refurbishment of the Mediclinic Brits hospital.

The project is set to be completed by 2022-11-04

Mediclinic Morningside New Consulting Block and Theatre Upgrade: 

Mediclinic Morningside is due to receive several upgrades including:
  • New site entrance gatehouse
  • New Consulting Room Block
  • Extended Parking Deck
  • Additions to theatre complex
  • New High care unit
  • Alterations to Maternity Unit
  • New Delivery Unit
The project is due to start construction by 2020-04-01

Surgeons for Little Lives Gala Dinner:

Graceland Architects’ Trevor Lovell and Lionel Bates attended this year’s annual fundraiser for the Surgeons for Little Lives Non-profit Organisation. Graceland Architects is the NPO’s chosen architect for their latest project: A Lactation Unit for moms at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

The project is due to break ground in early February 2020.

Staff News:

Graceland Architects welcomes it’s latest addition – little Liana Prinsloo who was born on 11 September, 2019. Congratulations to Elrize and Kobus on the arrival of their baby girl.

We also enjoyed an afternoon getting ready for the Rugby World Cup. 
Additions and Alterations to Existing Hoogland Hospital

Hoogland Private Hospital identified the need for expansions to their Paediatric, Obstetric and Neo-natal Units. To achieve this growth, a new Medical Unit had to be constructed.
